New study: City’s home insurance rates among lowest in state

New study: City’s home insurance rates among lowest in state

Sometimes, it isn’t cheap to live in Texas.

At least that’s the case according to data recently compiled by national consumer finance and research ValuePenguin, which released a new study comparing homeowner insurance rates throughout the state by looking at policy rates offered by 28 insurance companies based on a one-year term on a home covered for up to $ 150,000.

On average, homeowner insurance rates in Texas — the nation’s second most populous state — ranked as the third highest in the U.S. behind Florida and Louisiana. However, rates in the city of Bastrop are comparatively cheaper than most other cities in the Lone Star State, according to ValuePenguin co-founder Brian Quinn.

Bastrop’s average annual homeowners insurance premium rate of $ 1,065 landed it at No. 12 on the 275-city list, making it the most affordable town to purchase homeowners insurance in the county, according to the study.

The cities of Elgin and Smithville were not included in the study because of a combination of their relative size and the study’s aim to produce a report covering a wide range of cities statewide, said Quinn.
